Gordon ‘Wayne’ Arnold passed away peacefully at age 77 on Thursday, January 21, 2016 with his devoted wife and family by his side.
Gordon was born in Port Allen, Louisiana to Sam and Lucy Felps Arnold on July 7, 1938 joining a group of seven siblings. He is a 1957 graduate of Baton Rouge High where he excelled in football and track. He was also a Golden Gloves boxer. Graduation from LSU was a proud accomplishment.
Gordon worked for Exxon Refinery for 30 plus years and retired in 1995. He was a member of the Exxon Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Rescue Squad. It was at Exxon that he met his good friend and hunting and fishing buddy, Ed Kelly.
Gordon joined the US Army in 1957 and he later retired from the US Navy with a ranking of CWO4. Drilling and serving ACDUTRA were some of the highlights of his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Connie Nash Arnold, his three daughters, Treva Ory (Springfield LA), Ronni Smith (Lafayette, LA) and Kendra Arnold (Billings) and son, Scott Lenaburg, (Missoula), daughter-in-law Joey Ray, four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and one sister in Baton Rouge, Betty Simino, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
His family remembers him as strong, hard-working, quick-witted and had a love of history and trivia. We regularly gathered as a family to watch Jeopardy and had an informal competition as to who could answer the questions first.
Gordon will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, one who enjoyed being with his wife and family.
Per Gordon’s request cremation will take place and no services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Memorial Fund, Rocky Mountain Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
The family wants to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice staff for their loving care of Gordon and his family with a special thank you to Nurse, Della.
