Gale Duane Austin
Gale Duane Austin passed away Jan. 20th 2017 in Billings, MT at 73 years old. Dad was born in Tenion, Washington on June 6, 1943 to Clarence “Peck” and Dorthe Austin. He joined sisters Beatrice and Norma Jean and brother Jim. Soon after the family moved back to Timber Lake, South Dakota where Dad was raised.
He joined the Army in 1964 and served 2 years before marrying Kathi French in 1968. They had 3 daughters and later divorced.
Dad worked various jobs until joining the IBEW and going to work on the powerlines. We moved often before the work brought us to Harlowton in 1982. Harlo quickly became home for Dad and he never left.
Dad always had horses around and day worked for local ranches around Harlo after he retired. Dad always rode in a bosal hackamore and enjoyed making some of his own tack. He was kind hearted, and enjoyed being around people. Dad made sure we all knew how to work hard, loved us as best he could, and blessed us all 3 with a pretty good stubborn streak. He was proud of his grandkids.
He will be missed by many, including his three daughters, Dawn Austin and her boys Cavin and Jordyn of Cut Bank, Rhonda Schuchard and her kids Shelby, Sydney and Chase of Billings and Codi (Bill) Cook and their boys Connor, Parker, Jake, KC and Thomas of Huntley.
We would like to thank the Harlo Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, and everyone who took care, helped out and checked in on Dad.
There will be a celebration of Dad’s life 12:30pm Friday January 27th at the Moose Lodge in Harlowton, MT.
