Sadly, our mom passed away unexpectedly of heart failure during surgery on September 30, 2016. Mom was born in Big Timber, MT on June 14, 1935, growing up and graduating high school there.
After meeting Marvin Avent and getting married, she moved to Billings. Mom and Dad had two children, Lori and Ron. She worked at City Finance and GMAC, transferring to Seattle with GMAC in 1975 after getting divorced. After an early retirement from GMAC, she worked in Seattle at 7-Eleven part-time. During her time in Seattle, she became an avid fan of the Mariners and Seahawks and continued to watch every game that was broadcast. She moved back to Billings in 1999 to be near family and enjoyed working at Walmart for several years.
While in Seattle, she also loved to play bingo as often as she could, and upon returning to Billings, one of her favorite things to do was to spend time at Shooter’s “visiting” with Jane. While at her apartment, she was blessed with lovely neighbors whom she cherished—thank you all! (Barb, Bill, Shirley, Lisa, Julie.) Her other favorite pastime was watching tv, and if she wasn’t watching sports, you could always find her tv on the Game Show Network or CNN (proclaiming to be the expert on all of the current news). Vivian was a true friend and loved spending time chatting and discussing politics or newsworthy items with her, along with bragging about their common grandchildren and great-grandchild. One of the happiest moments in Mom’s life was when she was asked to stay in Shepherd and “babysit” the animals, whom she loved dearly, especially Sissy Mae.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Hilda & Harry; her sister Margie; her aunts and uncles, Arnold, Barney and Mabel, along with their spouses. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dog, Kia Maria.
Mom is survived by her children Lori (Tim) and Ron (Deanna) and grandchildren Ian (Allison), Seana (Jeff), Mandy, Ryan and Rick. She was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren: Wolfgang, Zylys and Oliver. Mom was extremely proud of her children and great-grandchildren and bragged about them often. She worshipped her great-grandchildren and our only wish is that she could have seen them grow up. She is also survived by her cousins Linda (Lloyd), Dixie (Allan), and Jerry (Jan); nephews Jim and Gary; niece Joni; her ex-daughter-in-law Val, and ex-son-in-law Ron.
The family would like to thank the Cath Lab staff at St. Vincent Healthcare, along with Dr. Knopf’s team who worked with Mom during her time there. We would also like to thank the nurses on 3-Tower who took great care of Mom. We would especially like to thank Dr. Rill, who was her favorite surgeon and held her hand during her final surgery.
We feel so blessed to have had a wonderful mother who was so special to all who were fortunate enough to meet her and we are already missing her tremendously. At Mom’s request, there will be no services, and a private family gathering will take place at a later date. WE LOVE YOU MOM — YOU WERE THE BEST!!! If anyone would like to make a donation, please do so in Mom’s name to the Animal Shelter or another homeless pet agency of your choice.
