Michael “Mike” Dennis Barnes, 68, of Billings, Montana, left this earth for heaven on February 14, 2016.
Mike was born in San Antonio, Texas to William and Mildred Barnes, raised on the ranch in Craig, MT. He was a Montana boy through and through. Being in or near the mountains with friends and family created countless amounts of laughter, love and smiles. He was always learning and figuring out how to do things differently. He is survived by his wife Carol with whom he was married 43 wonderful years; Sister Kathy Barnes; children Shaina & Cory Chepulis, Ian & Shanti Barnes, and Rachel Barnes/Michael Murphy, along with his grandchildren. He was considered to be dad by many who knew him; giving lessons to many on how to drive, change the oil, to figure out a project or to be on the receiving end of lecture 101 or maybe it was 203.
Mike was an engineer in all ways, he thought in these terms and everyone around him gained something along the way. Yet his love, pride and devotion to his family and church community is what made him tick. His faith in the Lord was unshakeable. He was an active member and elder at Billings Freedom Church. He was known for his calm, humble, accepting demeanor, and his gift for connecting with those around him. Mike will be deeply missed while forever remembered and celebrated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Billings Freedom Church (550 32nd Street West) at 11am Friday, Feb. 19, where the family will be greeting friends and relatives and sharing stories of his life.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Billings Freedom Church or charity of choice.
