Our dear mother, Clare I Barnett, passed away at home in Billings after a short illness and went to her eternal home to be with our father in heaven on February 23, 2016. Her loving husband and family members were by her side.
Clare was born in Lunds Valley, N.D. on August 4, 1930. Her family later moved to Stanley, N.D. where she grew up and graduated from Stanley High School. After high school she got married and had two sons and then moved to Williston, N.D. where she held jobs as a waitress and book keeper. It was in Williston where she met the love of her life Jay Barnett. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage beginning on November 1959 and moved to Billings where Clare worked for the local newspaper for many years before moving on to work for a local bank as a secretary and teller. She retired from full time employment in 1992 and then spent and enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren in Billings, Colorado and South Dakota. Clare and Jay made many trips back to North Dakota during the summer months to visit her sister and many other relatives while Jay worked on her niece’s farm.
Clare had a gracious spirit and was always there to provide a helping hand to those who needed it. Never complaining and always stoic in her demeanor which was true to her 100% Norwegian heritage. She was a beautiful lady which often belied her real age which was a closely held secret. Her beauty was matched only by her beautiful spirit.
She is survived by one brother, Otto Hoel, in Mayville, N.D. She was preceded in death by brother Edwin, sisters Myrtle, Junette and Darlene.
She is survived by children Randy Bjelkevig and partner Trish Vanderbeck of Billings, Rich and Teresita Bjelkevig of Loveland, CO. Bruce and Sharon Barnett of Wall, S.D. and Cathy and Ralph Fiedler of Sturgis, S.D. and Jeanette Potts of Beaverton, OR. They have 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Her faith in our Lord was represented by her actions. Mom will be missed dearly and we will always remember her for the morale foundation she gave her children and grandchildren and the example that she set for all of us.
A memorial service will be set for the middle of May and friends and relatives will be notified.
Memorial contributions may be made to RiverStone Health Hospice of Billings.
