Clarence “Bud” B. Barningham, 90 passed away on August 17, 2015 at Billings Clinic Hospital surrounded by his loving family.


Bud was born on February 24, 1925 in Bayfield, Wisconsin to Clarence F. and Iva E. (Browne) Barningham. He moved with his mother and older brother, Bill, to Virginia, Minnesota at the age of 5. He graduated from Virginia’s Roosevelt High School in 1942. Bud worked at the Virginia Daily Enterprise until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in February 1943. He proudly served in the Pacific Theater as a tail gunner on a PBY antisubmarine patrol plane. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he moved to Spokane, Washington where he graduated from Kinman Business University in 1948. He then began working for Texaco, Inc. in Bremerton, Washington.


Bud married June E. Clark on June 9, 1950 in Tacoma, Washington. They lived in Puyallup, Washington when their first child, Patricia Susan, was born in 1951. Their twins, John Lee and JoAnn Kay were born in 1953 in Everett, Washington. Bud’s 34 years work with Texaco took him and his family to Great Falls, MT, Boise, ID, Butte, MT, Billings, MT and then to Bellevue, WA where he retired in 1982. He was an avid golfer attaining a single digit handicap and won trophies for hitting holes-in-one. When he wasn’t on the golf course he was involved in church activities, working in his yard, tending his roses and vegetables. He was a loving caregiver for June as her health began to fail.


In 2003 they sold their house in Bellevue and moved back to Billings, MT settling at Mission Ridge on the St. John’s Lutheran Ministries campus. June passed away after 60 years of marriage in 2010. Bud was residing at Langemo Cottage at the time of his passing. The family is very grateful for the care that Bud and June received during their residence at St. John’s.


Bud is survived by his 3 children: Patricia (Mark) Hanson of Billings, John (Ramona Hensrude) Barningham of Everett, WA, and JoAnn (Rande) Farrow of Butte. 5 grandchildren: Kevin (Jessica) Hanson of Billings, Laura (Justin)Jackson of Belgrade, MT, Sage (Nicole) Collins of Nampa, ID, Scott (Krystina) Farrow of Helena, MT and Sarah(Matt) St. Germaine of Pasco, WA.

9 great grandchildren: Cooper, Mcguire, Mercer, Potter and Carver Hanson, Makenna St.Germaine, Thomas and David Collins and Megan Hanson. He is also survived by his brother’s children, William and Michael Barningham and Barbara Beyer and their families of Georgia and by his brothers-in-law, Robert F. (Dolores) and Richard C. (Lois) Clark and their families.


Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June, his brother and sister-in-law William R. and Geneva Barningham, great granddaughter Ireland Elizabeth Hanson. His parents-in-law, Robert and Ruth Clark, and nephews, Robert F. and Matthew C. Clark also preceded him in death.


The family would like to also thank the staff at Billings Clinic Hospital for their exceptional care during Bud’s recent illness.


Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Ministries or Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or a charity of one’s choice.


Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Billings, Montana. A reception will follow in the church reception hall.
