I was born on January 23, 1940 in Tulsa Oklahoma, however, being in California is my earliest memory.  I lost my mother when I was 6 years old and had a difficult childhood as a result.  After a chance encounter, I met my beautiful wife Janice and we were married for 60 wonderful years.  The first few years were very eventful.  We had our two daughters, Karen Lyn on September 22, 1959 and Brenda Jean on May 9, 1961.  I was fortunate to work as a Master Machinist and loved every minute of it.  I always said, “It is a lucky man that can do for a living what he would do for free if he could afford it”.  We were able to purchase our first home in 1962 and raised our children there.  We had a wonderful life and were very happy.  I was introduced to sailing by a close friend and was hooked.  I owned a few boats but the prize was a 19’ cutter I fondly named Janiska, a Dutch nickname for Janice.  We enjoyed camping and touring the National Parks.  Later on we were blessed with 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
