Clinton passed away on October 14, 2016 after suffering a severe brain stem stroke. He was the fourth child of Clark R. and Mae H. Cooney. Clinton grew up at Joliet and graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class.
Working diligently in summers, he was able to put himself through college and graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Montana State College. After graduation, he was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and studied for a year in Oslo, Norway.
Upon returning stateside, Clinton was accepted at Stanford University, Palo Alto where he completed a Doctorate in Chemistry. He also worked on a Doctorate in Physics but did not complete that program.
His career was spent at San Diego County Water and Air Pollution Control. After retiring in 2002, Clinton lived in Valence, France for a number of years before returning to Montana.
He was interested in photography, classical music, French wines, alternative medicine, and scientific studies.
Clinton was deeply devoted to his family and is survived by sisters Carolyn Sue Bratlie, Billings; Nancy C. Zier, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; brothers Jerry E. Cooney, Park City; Stanley A. Cooney, Billings, and Stephen L. Cooney, Fort Benton; seven nieces and six nephews.
