Noreen Anita Madsen Crogan was born May 31, 1937 and passed away January 27, 2019 at the RiverStone Hospice house at the age of 81. The age of 81 held a special place in her heart because her grandmother, mom Dora and sister Ruth all passed away at the age of 81 as well.
Noreen was born in Billings. Her parents were Clarence and Dora Krueger Madsen. She attended school in Billings and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1955.
She still gathered regularly with a group of friends from high school before she became ill.
During summer breaks she worked for a motel in Silvergate. After high school she worked for an oil company in order to save for college in California which she attended for a year then returned to Billings and graduated with a teaching degree from Eastern Montana College in June 1960. At Eastern Montana College she was nominated for homecoming queen, she didn’t win but it was a great memory for her.
After college, she married Dennis Crogan. They made their home in Lompoc, CA where she taught. On June 19, 1971 Noreen was blessed with Sean Crogan who became the purpose for her life. Dennis and Noreen later divorced. Noreen & Sean moved to Billings to be with her ailing mother and have been here since.
Noreen worked various jobs while raising Sean and later she worked at the Community Center and Moss Mansion until she was in her late 70’s.
Sean was her pride and joy. Sean and Noreen traveled to California a few times and even to Disneyland when he was younger. Her stories and pictures of Sean were immense and her love for him was endless. A mother’s love is forever.
She would often go to Helena to see Cheryl Strickland and her family as they grew up together and were very close. One of the highlights of her life was going to Israel a few years ago. It was a trip of a lifetime.
Noreen had a love for writing down her thoughts. She spent a lot of time writing in journals, on scrap papers and lots of letters. She kept lots in her red book which has been helpful.
After her parents passed, she spent most holidays with her sister Ruth & John Donovan’s family.
Noreen’s faith and her church family were very important to her. Her favorite verse was John 3:16 and she wanted to share the love of God with everyone she knew. She has had very special friends through the years. Special thank you to Florrie Bennett, Kaaren Wylie, Jacque Reilly, Jean McKennon and so many more. Also Simone Min whom she had been friends with since living in California in the 70’s.
Noreen was preceded in death by Clarence & Dora (Krueger) Madsen, Viola (Gene) Frates, Vern (Marge) Madsen, Ruth (John) Donovan, Cheryl Frates Strickland and Michael Strickland.
