Claude J. ‘C.J.” Curry

On October 14, 2017, Claude J. Curry, 87, of Billings passed away from this life, following a short illness.

Claude was the first of twins, born on May 13, 1930 in Sedalia, Missouri to Walter and Rachel (Ward) Curry.

Claude, always known as C.J., graduated from high school and soon joined the Navy.  Following his duty in the military, he started working in Cutbank, MT for the Carter Oil Company.  He transferred to the Billings Refinery (Exxon) and soon met his first wife, Mavis Griffin.  He volunteered in the community at Lewis & Clark and Riverside Middle Schools, earning financial support from Exxon grants to benefit educational programs.

Claude was active in coaching his son’s baseball teams and that was a family life style for years.  He always had time for his kids and loved having them around.  Claude loved sports and continued coaching from his easy chair in his later years.

Claude was a retired veteran having served for 23 years.  He was also active in his Navy and Army Reserve and was also supportive of his local military organizations.  While on his way to boot camp in 1984, he was in a serious car accident that forced his early retirement.

He was remarried to Joyce Fisher, his wife of 16 years, who cared for him until he passed away.  Claude’s passion for sports was supported every day by Joyce.  She could hold her weight in a game of cribbage with “Cyrus” when challenged.  C.J. and Joyce were blessed with a sense of humor that kept them loving every day.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers: David, John, James, Walter, Estill, Donald; sister Mary Jane; and his first wife Mavis Griffin Curry.

Those left behind to remember Claude include his twin brother, Clyde of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.  His wife, Joyce, daughter Claudine Wanner (Mike Bolte) of Shepherd, son Wade (Mary Jo) Curry of Laurel, daughter Deborah (Winfield Seitz) of  Billings, son Pat (Cherie) Curry of Billings.  Grandchildren:  Brian, Shannon, Derek, Jarrett, Ryan, Levi, and Cole.  Great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Sylvie, Cylus, Makayla, Haley, Braxton, Evangeline, John, and Beckett, also step-children, India (Terry) Ashcraft, Erling (Dixie) Juel, Katrina Cole, step-grandchildren: Levi, Eryn, Lindsey and Alyssa, step-great-grandchildren: Isobel, Evan, Pierce, Audrey.
