Daniel Woodrow Doles, 72, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018. Dan was born to Woody and Clara (Sieg) Doles on February 22, 1946. He grew up in Billings and graduated from Billings West High School in 1964. Dan enjoyed playing the string bass in his high school band; The Swing-Alongs, at local dances. Dan enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and served his country for two years. Dan earned a Mechanical Engineering degree at Montana State University in 1973. In 1970, Dan married Linda Krug. In 1972, they had twin sons, Derek and David. Dan and Linda later divorced. Dan spent his 44-year working career providing many services to the Oil/Gas and Power Industries, utilizing his Mechanical Engineering Degree to the fullest. Dan held positions as Piping Engineer, Piping Designer, Certified API Inspector and Certified Welding Inspector; leaving his mark on Oil Refineries and Power Plants in Wyoming, Montana, Utah and Washington State. Dan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. However, his true love was competitive shooting along with his passion to develop young people in the sport of shooting. Dan was a volunteer for the MT Big Sky State Games for 30 straight years. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Woody and Clara. He is survived by his brother, Brian; sons Derek (Andrea) Doles and David (Kristin) Doles; three grandchildren Caleb, Elise, and Sophia Doles. A private memorial service is planned in the spring.
