Joseph Paul Ehlenburg, 59, of Billings passed away unexpectedly while working in Sidney, MT. He went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2018. Joe was born in Billings, MT on May 3, 1959 to Charles Arthur and Margaret Cordelia (Lynd) Ehlenburg.
Joseph attended school in Billings and graduated from West High. It was in Billings that he made his home and started work with his father at Epcon Sign in 1975. Joe ended his long term career in 2011 to care for his son. He returned to work in 2013 with his friend Kevin Bouley of Midland Electric, where he worked until his passing.
Joe often talked about meeting a Butte girl at the Cooney Dam. On May 9, 1986, he married that girl he met many years before. Joe, Brenda, and their son Shawn made their home in Billings until 1998 when they moved to their dream home on Sam’s Place in Duck Creek. They entertained many friends and family here. Joe and Brenda were married for 32 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his first grandson, Cooper “Joseph” Hickey. Joe enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, trap shooting, Sunday morning calls to friend Doug Bullock of Texas and Terry Hobbs of Kansas, family summers in Kansas, and he had a special love for his dog Jake.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; brother David; sister Jean; uncle Rocky Vail; and his best bud Kevin Unruh.
He is survived by his wife Brenda; son Shawn Hickey (Billings, MT); daughter Holly Hurbst (Desert Hot Springs, CA); brother Robert (Cheryl) Ehlenburg and sister Mary Buechler, both of Billings; sister-in-law Kim Chrismon (Butte, MT); 3 grandchildren; his favorite niece Julie Beuchler of Billings; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held later. Memorials in Joe’s name can be sent to the Duck Creek Volunteer Fire Department or any Volunteer Fire Department.
