Janice J. Evenson
Janice J. Evenson, 72, passed away in the early morning of March 29, 2017, at Riverstone Hospice House. She was born October 9, 1944 in Hardin, Montana, the twelfth child of thirteen children to Fred and Caraline (Pleinis) Heckel. Her family came to Montana in 1933 and lived in the Billings area until 1940. In 1941 they moved to Hardin. She graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1962.
On February 20, 1965, she married Jerry Evenson, the former president of Northwest Pipe. They had two children: a son, Boyd, and daughter Tammy. She worked for five years at J.C. Penney and then at American Greetings for 30 years. During this time, she served as a board member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and later attended Faith Chapel.
Janice was known for her infectious laughter, genuine smile, and generous heart. She supported her husband at Northwest Pipe for 45 years and had a knack for making everyone feel like family. She built her life around helping others and making sure that everyone around her was comfortable and happy. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home, feeding large gatherings, putting puzzles together into the wee hours of the night, reading a good book, and playing games around the table. Her family, friends, and faith were the most important things in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her son Boyd and wife Teresa of Eugene, Oregon; daughter Tammy Bond and husband Scott; grandson Tanner Evenson and granddaughters Bailey Evenson and Presley Bond; her brother Rodger Heckel, and sisters Shirley Armfield, Betty Elder, Donna Feller, and Carol Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ralph Heckel, Warren Heckel, and Myren Heckel; sisters Lola Quest, Paulette Bargen, Phyllis Kirkemo, and Gladys Schmidt.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of her life service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 4th at Faith Chapel, 517 Shiloh Road.
