Jill LaRae Roesler-Fitzgerald, 40, of Billings, Montana, passed away on November 17, 2019 with family by her side after a 26-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jill was born in Glendive, Montana to parents Deb Roesler and Jim Wickizer on April 7, 1979. She lived in Glendive until moving to Billings with her mom in 1986. After graduating from Billings Senior High in 1997, she gave birth to her first son, Braeden (father Ryan Brown, of Sydney) in 1998. The same year, she began work at Aspen Meadows nursing home after acquiring her CNA license, and later transferred to ATU at Billings Clinic for several more years while attending college and raising Braeden. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English for Secondary Education and Special Education from Montana State University Billings in 2009. The same year, she married the love of her life, Jason Fitzgerald, and also gave birth to her second son, Brogan. Two years later, they had a daughter, Brinnen. Family has always been important to Jill, so after Brogan and Brinnen joined the family, Jill decided to put her teaching aspirations on hold so she could dedicate her time fully to them.
Jill loved any activity, no matter how simple or unique, that included family and friends. She loved going on trips with her family to places such as Flathead Lake, where great memories were made, or hiking in the Beartooth mountains with her friends to enjoy scenic vistas. At home, Jill loved tending to flowers, making unique crafts out of repurposed material, going for walks throughout the neighborhood and at Norm’s Island with her mom, and spending time relaxing in the backyard with family and neighbors. Jill has always loved cats. During the last few years, her fur-babies were a great comfort to her, especially OC (Orange Cat) who stayed snuggled by her side throughout her journey. Jill had many friends in her various cancer and mom online groups and would always strive to help others with her advice. She has and will always be an inspiration to others with her strength and willingness to share her story.
She is survived by her husband Jason, her three children, Braeden, Brogan, and Brinnen, her parents, Deb Roesler and Jim Wickizer, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, along with many loving friends including Cassidy Ketchem, who has been her best friend and “bonus sister” for over 20 years and was by her side for nearly all of her chemo sessions over the last two years. Jill is preceded in death by her grandparents, Emil and LaDonna Roesler.
Jill requested to be cremated, with ashes scattered at various locations where amazing memories were made throughout her life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 at 11 o’clock a.m. at Cremation & Funeral Gallery, 29 8th St W in Billings. In lieu of flowers, donations for her family can be made to the “Jill Fitzgerald Benefit Fund” at any Stockman Bank location.
