John “Jack” Leroy Habener, born June 14, 1928 in Hardin, Montana, passed into the arms of his Savior on Father’s Day, June 16, 2019 at his home in Billings. He had just celebrated his 91st birthday.

Jack married Clarice Dierenfield on June 25, 1955. Together they built a home in Lockwood and raised three children. They later divorced.

Jack contributed his time and admirable work ethic to many organizations over the years, including the Roman Theater in Red Lodge, the Billings Saddle Club, Sunset Bowl, Trinity and Hope Lutheran Churches of Billings; he also spent many years working with and meeting the people of downtown Billings through Rowe Furniture and Emily’s Family Restaurant.

In the middle of his life, Jack was blessed to find his “Sweetie”, Patsy Triggs, and they spent more than 20 happy years together before her death in June 2008.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, a step-father, a step-mother, a half-sister, and two brothers who died in childhood from influenza:  Clarence H. “Junior” and Claude E. “Buddy” Habener. His young brothers were very dear to his heart, and with the help of son Steve, Jack had a memorial headstone laid at their gravesite several years ago to ensure they would never be forgotten.

Jack is survived by his three children, Steve, Scott, and Susan and their families, which include eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews and many extended family members.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, 1911 Highway 87 E (directly across from Lockwood Schools), Billings. A luncheon and time of fellowship and sharing will follow at the church.
