September 1, 1952-July 31, 2017
Kim Patric Johnson was born on September 1, 1952 in San Francisco, CA to J.D. and Ruth E. Johnson. He was raised in Billings, Montana. Kim graduated from MSU-Bozeman and continued his education receiving a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University. Kim passed away unexpectedly at home on July 31, 2017.
He married Betty Beckers and to this union a son, Brooks Michael Johnson, was born on November 13, 1971. In March of 1983, Kim married Peggy O’Leary. He was an avid road cyclist for over 40 years and competed in several triathlons often winning first place. He loved to stream fish but recently enjoyed floating the Big Horn on his pontoon boat with his favorite sidekick, Lacy (his dog) by his side. He came home one day saying “never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I could catch my age in the number of fish I caught today.”
After working as a veterinarian in his own practice for a few years, Kim decided to take on a new adventure, one that wouldn’t tear at his heart-strings so much. He went back to school at EMC (MSUB) for 6 months and took as much accounting and computer classes that he could. He was hired at Cenex (CHS) as a systems analyst and worked there for 25 years.
Kim was a Little League umpire for several years and became a “non-expert” expert in all the rules of the game. He was well respected by everyone in baseball for his knowledge of the game and his fairness as an umpire. The kids loved “gramps.”
Kim also became an excellent piano player and usually played an hour or so each day. His latest exercise activity was taking classes at the gym and playing pickle ball. He always had to be busy whether it was physically or mentally. His latest mental endeavor was to research and find out as much as he could about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) which is the genetic disease that took his son’s life. He again was becoming a “non-expert” expert on the subject.
Kim will be remembered for his great sense of humor, jokes, storytelling, his love of animals and his love of his grandchildren. Kim was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Brooks (November, 2016). He is survived by his wife of 34 years (Peggy O’Leary), her siblings Deanne O’Leary-Pratt, Laura Weber, Valerie Vucinich and Paul O’Leary. He is also survived by his brother Mike (Sherry) Georgetown, Texas, sisters Schelle (Page) Spencer and their children, Teri Johnson (Ken Heafner) and their children and brother Scott (Karla) and his children all of Billings. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Angelica Johnson and his four grandchildren Valerie, Andrew, Aundrea and Trystan Johnson.
Kim, you will be missed tremendously but our loving memories of you will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held on August 12, 2017 at the Cremation & Funeral Gallery, 29 8th St. West at 11:00 AM.
