Ruby Mae (Huffman/Hays) Jones passed away peacefully April 16th at the Edgewood Memory Care Facility in Billings, MT.
Ruby was born March 22, 1928 in Helena, MT and grew up in Lame Deer with her parents Harry and Amelia Huffman. She graduated from the Lame Deer High School and worked as a grocery clerk at the Lame Deer Trading Post after graduation and at the nursing home.
She married James (Pete) Harrison Hays in November of 1946. They had 4 children while living in Lame Deer: Wendell, Marvin, Wanda, and Marla. In 1957, the family moved to Hardin where Ruby worked at Dolly’s market as a clerk. In 1959 she enrolled in a nursing program but was unable to finish due to the birth of her 5th child, Brenda in 1960. She was never able to return to finish her nursing program after that.
Later, when the children were fairly well grown she worked as head cook for the senior citizens center in Hardin until her retirement.
James passed away of cancer in 2004 and Ruby later married Herbert Jones. She and Herb moved to Vaughn and enjoyed their retirement traveling around the country. When they were home they spent many hours playing pool with friends and family at a local pub.
In 2016 her daughter, Wanda and son, Wendell moved her and Herb to Huntley where they lived for 3 years before finally moving into the Edgewood Memory Care Facility in Billings, MT.
Ruby was preceded in death by her first husband James, her son Marvin and both of her parents. She is survived by her son Wendell (Carolyn) Hays, Wanda Hays (Phil Gonzalez), Marla Biesheuvel, Brenda Hays and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
