Marcella Sarah Eder Jones peacefully passed away with her youngest daughter by her side in the early morning of May 11, 2017. Mom was born June 27, 1921 in Drew, Montana to Mark and Fannie Eder. She was the oldest of seven children.
Mom was raised in Poplar, Montana and graduated from Poplar High School in 1940. After graduation, mom enlisted in the Women Army Air Corp. She was stationed in San Francisco and was a stenographer. She received an Honorable Discharge in 1946 and left service with the rank of Sergeant. Following her example was her daughter, Cecelia Madison, U.S. Army; grandson, Shane Hogsett, an Iraqi war veteran; and great-granddaughter, Sara Ann Volk, who currently serves in the U.S. Navy.
Upon returning home from the service, Mom moved to Billings, Montana and became employed with the BIA. Here she met a young soil scientist by the name of Jimmie R. Jones. Mom and dad were married on February 24, 1952, and had been married 65 years.
Mom was an avid bowler. She bowled until the age of 89, when a knee injury ended her bowling. Mom kept score for many years which she enjoyed immensely all while bowling on several leagues each week. She was honored as secretary of the year in 1998.
Marcella was predeceased in death by her husband on March 26, 2017; parents and all her siblings, Dana, Vernon, Cecilia, Amelia, Buster and Joe. Surviving mother are her children, Jeanne Eder (Curt); Dana, Cecelia Madison (Clark); Carlos, Rick, and youngest, Karri Hogsett (Larry), 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mom will be inurned at the Yellowstone National Cemetery, 55 Buffalo Trail Road, Laurel, Montana at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, with full military honors. Please arrive early. A reception will immediately follow at the Laurel Masonic Lodge, 9900 Laurel Airport Road.
