Laddie Burl McDade
March 30, 1929 ~ January 17, 2018
After a good, long life, Laddie slipped peacefully away on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. l7, 2018.
He was born in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, the first of three children, to Burl A. and Thelma McDade. Laddie grew up in Duncan, OK, where he attended Duncan High School and played football for the ‘Duncan Demons’. After graduation, he was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Oklahoma where he studied geology and played football for Coach Bud Wilkinson and the OU Sooners.
During those years, he courted and married his beautiful Wanda Louise Henkle. She was the love of his life and they raised two children. They settled in Billings, Montana, where Laddie worked for Shell Oil Co. Life in Billings was wonderful; then, in 1989, cancer took Wanda away and Laddie’s life was shattered.
A year or so later Laddie met and married Adela Joyce “Danny” Biggs. They enjoyed many years of travel and companionship together until Danny’s passing in Feb. 2017.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his youngest sister (Linda Kaye Merchant of Denton, TX).
He is survived by his two children Mark (Julia) of Billings, MT and Diana Gilmore of Kalispell, MT; his sister Mary Lou Frazier (Bruce) of Amarillo, TX. Laddie is also survived by his four grandchildren: Ben Gilmore (Tara) of Idaho Falls, ID; Beverly Colon (Eddie) of Pocatello, ID; Joseph Gilmore (DeLacey) of Ronan, MT; and Jennifer Stipe (Clinton) of Kalispell, MT, and 14 great-grandchildren.
A family gathering and memorial will be held at a later time.
A very special ”Thank You!” to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Tender Nest Assisted Living, and to the kind and caring people at Stillwater Hospice. His in-home caregiver at Aspen View, Amberlee Vermette has left an indelible imprint of love in our hearts … You have all been a blessing to our family.
Journey peacefully, Dad.
