Our husband, son, brother, shipmate and friend, Roger Alan Nixon, died August 5, 2019 at Riverstone Hospice House in Billings, MT from asbestos-related lung cancer. Born July 15, 1951 in San Francisco, California, Roger was the first-born child of Helen Willard Nixon and Robert Nixon.
Roger served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1989. Roger was stationed on the USS Lester, the USS Mitscher, and then transitioned to the TAR Program, stationed in VP 62 Jacksonville, Florida, where he met his wife and best friend, Paula Henderson Nixon. Their next station was to VP 69, Oak Harbor, Washington. After retirement, Roger and Paula traveled the United States in their RV, meeting and making wonderful friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his grandparents Harry Willard, John and Melba Pirrie, Ben and Mary Nixon; father Bob Nixon; sisters Stephanie Larson and Rochelle Nixon; stepfather Jim Fergus; and nephew David DeLaittre.
Roger is survived by his wife Paula; sons Ryan (Francesca), and Jason (Vincenza) of Modena, Italy; mother Helen Fergus; siblings Dennis (Rody) Fergus, Nancy (Paul) DeLaittre; Rod (Tara) Nixon, and Randy (Darcy) Nixon; grandchildren Nicolas, Michelle, Karol, and Justin; and many cousins, nephews, and friends, as well as his fur baby Lexi.
There will be a celebration of life Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 1:30 p.m., at Yellowstone Cellars, 1335 Holiday Circle, Billings, Montana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
