Eldon Earl Norwood passed away peacefully of natural causes at age 86 on March 27, 2019 in Billings, Montana.
Earl was born in Ector, Texas on April 28, 1932 to Lula and Clyde Norwood.
In 1950 he graduated from Bonham High School in Bonham, TX. He later attended and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.S. in Geology. He met Carolyn Forbs, his wife and mother of his six children, at SMU and they married in December of 1955.
After working for Continental Oil for ten years as a certified professional petroleum geologist, he became an independent consultant and then started his own successful business, E. Earl Norwood and Associates, based in Plentywood, MT.
Earl’s other business ventures and partnerships included Basin Air Service, Sheraton Water Disposal, Diamond Geophysical, Dry Creek Ranch and Kay’s Novelties.
He had many accomplishments during his career in the oil business. He wrote several articles published by the American Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Earl also served for many years on the board of directors for the YMCA and the Billings Petroleum Club.
His passion for physical fitness included handball and racquetball, swimming, golf, biking, and jogging.
Earl was a generous giver to many people and institutions and a compassionate volunteer in the community driving the van for cancer patients to and from their doctor appointments.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Stan, Troy, and John; his first wife and mother of his children Carolyn; and his daughter Kay.
He is survived by his children: Chris (Roy Koenigsberg), Cynthia, Craig (Del), Charles (Susan), and John; his step-daughter Andra Burnham; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services honoring Earl’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday April 6, 2019 at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
