Bob’s life journey began on January 6, 1956 in Flint, Michigan with parents Melbourne C. Pottruff and Doris A. Pottruff, joining his two older brothers Kerry and Greg. Shortly after they welcomed their youngest brother, Doug. They then moved to Montana, with a couple years in Bozeman, including one summer in Yellowstone National Park, eventually settling in Townsend where Bob grew up.
He was a four-year letterman in track, and three years in basketball and football. Bob, as a freshman, joined his two older brothers on the mile relay team at district, qualifying for divisional track meet in Billings. After high school, Bob attended UM. From there, he went back to Michigan to work for his Aunt and Uncle on the Rifle River Canoe Livery, where he became interested in family history.
After Bob moved back to Billings, he married Connie Deines and they later divorced. He then married Donna Hartman, with whom they had daughter Kendra and step-son Tony Doss, Jr.; Bob and Donna later divorced. Bob met LaRae Blaesius and her kids Lauren, Taylor and Troy in 1998 and they became inseparable. Bob was honored to walk his daughter down the aisle in 2014 to marry David Rabenberg, whom he was very excited to welcome to the family. He was most proud about becoming a Grandpa in April 2017 to Hadley Jean. He was eagerly looking forward to his next granddaughter’s arrival in March 2020.
Bob worked many jobs over his years in Billings including Coca Cola, car sales, McCall Pools, Nabisco and eventually settling at Pepsi. He was a dedicated employee for Pepsi for the past 13 years, accumulating many friends along the way.
Bob’s lifelong interests included the family tradition of bowling, hunting (getting lost), fantasy sports, memorabilia (junk) collections, and family ancestry. He loved playing softball, mostly for the postgame activities. One of Bob’s most memorable trips was traveling to Africa for a once in a lifetime experience with LaRae, Kerry and Carol in 2017.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Mel & Doris Pottruff and his brother Doug.
Bob is survived by his wife LaRae Blaesius, daughter Kendra (David) Rabenberg and granddaughter Hadley, Lauren, Taylor, Troy (Holli) Blaesius and grandsons Shea and Asher.
