Anita Pearl Salveson, 59, of Billings, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was born in Roundup, Montana on January 3, 1959. She was the ninth of thirteen children born to Dorothy and John Carpenter. Anita lived in Roundup until her family moved to Billings in the 1970s. She graduated from Billings Senior in 1977.

Anita had many jobs and excelled at them all. In 1992, she graduated from Eastern Montana College with a degree in Accounting. Shortly after graduating she passed the CPA exam and began working as an accountant. Anita was a lifelong Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick’s for 30 years. She also enjoyed attending a monthly book club with women from church. In addition to her dedication to the church, Anita was involved at the Billings Elk Lodge. She was the first woman to serve as the Exalted Ruler of Lodge 394 and held this position numerous times.

Anita had many hobbies. She loved to dance, attend country music concerts, fish, do hot yoga, and run. Anita was talented, creative and determined. She could make anything; fix anything and wouldn’t stop until the task was finished. Anita completed a marathon in July of 2016, just weeks before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She continued to run throughout her treatment with her final race being in the Montana Half-Marathon in September of 2017.

Anita raised four children: Julie, Kathy, Lisa, and Mark. Throughout their childhood she baked and decorated special cakes, made costumes, and assisted with special projects at school. Anita was a wonderful grandmother to each of her eight grandchildren. She loved to hold, play, and dance with each of them.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents John and Dorothy Carpenter, her brother Kenny, sister Barbara, and husband Gus.

Anita is survived by; her children: Julie Carpenter, Kathy Aune (Marc), Lisa Pickens (Joe), and Mark Carpenter (Tiffany); eight grandchildren: Grant, Nicholas, Bryan, Bradley, Carter, Seth, Camden and Caitlin; siblings: Jim Carpenter (Chris), Elaine Kattner (Walt), Carolyn Fox, Marilynn Lafountain, Keith Carpenter, Collen Schaak (Ronnie), Greg Carpenter (Cindy), Sharon Carlos, Laurie Melia (Steve), and Pat Carpenter (Deanna); numerous nieces and nephews, friends and special friend Bud LaCounte.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Co-Cathedral on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at noon with a luncheon to follow in the church hall. After services at the church, her remains will be buried in Roundup alongside her parents.
