Jimmie Rogers Schell

On the evening of Thursday, November 23th, 2017, Jimmie left these earthly bonds to sit at a table of angels with his trusty pipe, a cup of coffee, a wide grin, and a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. He is certain to regale them with a tale (or two or three!) of his adventures on earth.

Jimmie Rogers Schell was born on August 22, 1946, to Christ Schell and Marie (Fike) Schell in Salmon, ID. The small family moved around a bit, eventually settling in Billings, MT. It didn’t take long for him to be joined by his sister Diana, brother Victor, and baby sister Cindy. Jimmie spent most of his youth in Billings, though he had many adventures during summers spent out on his uncle John’s farm in South Dakota. Jimmie attended a newly built Billings West High, but left just shy of graduation to go forth on the great journey of life.

Jimmie was fiercely proud of his kids, Kathleen, Sara, & Justin and equally proud of his “step-and-a-halfs” Amie & Miea who he was blessed with through his marriage to former wife, Carol (Hageman) Schell. He would often entertain visitors with stories of their exploits whether the visitor liked it or not. Many of his stories revolved around a successful “Gotcha!” he would play on those he loved the most. To his grandchildren he was Papa Jimmie, the handsomest and best grandpa in the world.

What most will remember is his love of country music and his gift as a musician, singer, and songwriter. He even professionally recorded an album featuring covers and many songs he wrote. A party wasn’t a party until Jimmie strapped on his guitar and sang a song or two by himself or with other gifted family and friends.

Jimmie enjoyed working in his shop, building furniture, renovating many items from just a few broken sticks and springs, rebuilding old cars, fishing, camping, dumping as many people as he could off the tubes behind the back of the boat, hunting with his dad and son, and mostly, spending time with those he loved.

Jimmie was preceded in life by his beloved parents, Christ & Marie. He is survived by siblings Diana (Jesse) Abel, Victor (Becky) Schell, Cindy (Howard) Hoff; children favorite daughter Kathleen (Andy) Van De Woestyne, favorite daughter Sara (David) Schantz, favorite son Justin (Jackie) Schell; step-and-a-half’s favorite daughter Amie (Dennis Dill) & favorite daughter Miea (Brad) Levery; grandchildren: Colin, Vincent, Ashley, Quentin, Alexis, Jaxon, Jovie, Zach, Josh, Amanda, & Maggie; as well as 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday July 5, 2018 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Billings Masonic Center, 1101 Broadwater Ave.
