Laraine Marilyn (Benson) Slavens, passed away at home in the early morning of July 22, 2018. Beloved wife, mother, sister and grandma, Laraine lived a full life surrounded by her family. She was born February 25, 1933 in Outlook, MT. Laraine was the third child of Herbert and Katherine Benson. She enjoyed a childhood spent outdoors helping on the family farm, and attending school in the one room schoolhouse before attending Eastern Montana College where she met Harold (Hal) Slavens. The pair were married March 19, 1953 and welcomed 3 children; Donald William, Sandra Kay, and Jennifer Leigh who became Laraine’s main focus in life. The family spent their early years stationed throughout Europe and the States while Harold was enlisted in the army. Laraine cared for the family and was a rock during the many moves, until eventually settling in Billings, MT in 1977. She worked many years at the Mental Health Center in Billings, until her retirement. During retirement, Laraine kept busy caring for and helping to raise her four grandchildren. She was known for her delicious home cooked meals, immaculately kept house and the love and commitment she shared with all who came into her life. Not one to mince words, she kept the family laughing and in order. Her love for others was deep, and her absence on this earth will be surly be felt by all who knew her.

Laraine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Lloyd (Sonny), Harold and Donald; brother-in-law Robert Gailey (Orlando, FL) as well as her beloved son, Don.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters; grandchildren: Jason (Billings) and Matthew Harris (Seattle, WA), Emily (Harris) Feddes (Platteville, WI), and Katherine Harris (Billings), great-granddaughter Peyton Kerpa Harris (Helena), sister Elaine Gailey (Orlando, FL), sister-in-law Valerie Benson (Plentywood) and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M., August 25, 2018 at Cremation & Funeral Gallery, 29 8th St. West in Billings, followed by a gathering at the family home on Saddle Tree Pl.
