Rosalie Marlene Smith

1938 ~ 2019

Rosalie Smith passed away at home on February 9, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was 80 years old.

Rosalie had a full and rewarding life and was loved and respected by many friends and family.

Rosalie was born March 6, 1938, in Billings and attended Canyon Creek School. At age 14, she moved to town and lived with her Aunt Fannie, Uncle Joe, and sister, Irene, where she attended Lincoln Junior High and Senior High School. After graduation, Rosalie worked at the Billings Water Department for several years doing clerical and secretarial work.

On April 18, 1958, Rosalie married Gerald Smith. In 1960, they built their family home west of Billings. Rosalie and Gerald were married 60 plus years.

Rosalie raised three daughters. She was a leader in 4-H for 11 years where she taught many young girls to sew. Rosalie also kept busy helping support the family through different jobs. She worked seasonally at O’Donnell Turkey Farm and also worked at Elder Grove School as an assistant cook. In 1978, Gerald took over the dairy farm west of Billings. A few years later, Rosalie started to help milk cows on a daily basis and continued until they sold the cows in 2000. Rosalie said, “That was a good day.”

Some of the hobbies and activities she enjoyed throughout her life were riding horses and motorcycles, camping, bird-watching, playing the organ, growing African Violets, bookkeeping for the farm, playing cards, canning, gardening, learning to use the computer, crocheting, sewing, ceramics, crafts, and, most of all, cooking for her family and friends.

Rosalie is survived by her husband, Gerald Smith; her three children, Kimberly (David) Hafner, Denise (Kenneth) Schloder, Laura (Leonard) Houser; her sisters, Mary Lou Brey and Irene (Dareld) Wissel; five grandchildren, Andrea, Nicole, Danielle, Katie, and Ashley; and expecting a great-grand daughter in July.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. at Cremation & Funeral Gallery.

Funeral Services will be at Pilgrim Congregational Church on Saturday February 16, 2019, at 10:30 A.M.
