Marla Valeria Strissel, formerly of Hamilton, MT, died at her home in Billings, MT on May 5, 2019 at seventy-six years old. She passed peacefully in her sleep after battling COPD.
Marla was born July 24, 1942 in Havre, MT, to Ivan and Mildred (Adams) Hendricks. She attended Rudyard Public Schools and later obtained her G.E.D. She married Roger Strissel on October 28, 1959 in Inverness, divorcing in 1971. Marla spent her early adult years working on the Strissel farm south of Inverness and for Inverness Public Schools. Later, she was employed by Social Services for the State of Montana both in Glasgow and Hamilton. Marla enjoyed her work but being with family delighted her most. She had a nickname for everyone close to her. She was always as active as possible, enjoying horseback riding, the farm life, hunting, rafting, fishing, and stock car racing. She especially loved adventuring with family in the Bitterroot Mountains. Marla loved to laugh, and her laugh was contagious.
Marla is survived by her children, Gayla (Tony) Janskovitch of Billings, Kaylin (Mike) Gunderson of Flaxville, and Chad Strissel of Flaxville; granddaughters Tara Gibson, Lindsay Reichenberg, Sheena Janskovitch, Laura Hunt, Rachel Gunderson, and Katherine Gunderson; great-grandchildren Lazavia, Elijah, Liam, Maylee, and Michael; siblings Karen Leimkuhler, Victor Adams, Terry Adams, Timothy Adams, Pamala Adams, and Kelly Adams; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cherished dog Sugar. Marla is predeceased by her parents and sister Darlene Harris.
Marla wished to forgo a formal service. Her remains will be spread at the Gunderson Farm (Flaxville) and her beloved Blodgett Canyon (Hamilton) at a later date.
