Martha Janet Tucker, age 93, passed away peacefully from natural causes in the early morning hours of December 28, 2019 at Aspen Meadows Nursing Home in Billings, MT. Janet was born June 8, 1926 to Herman R. and Ora Morris in Jonesboro, LA. She attended school in Jonesboro and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA with a business degree. Janet met Charles Ragan Tucker while working at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. Their first date at a baseball game led to marriage on August 14, 1948. Their three daughters, Sara, Karen, and Martha were later born in Shreveport.
Janet had an eye for detail, an appreciation of fine furnishings and a well set table, and much love for the family’s many pets including cats, kittens, dogs, and even baby ducklings one Easter morning! She enjoyed a daily crossword challenge, a good novel, gardening, and working in her yard. She stayed active outdoors well into her eighties, growing flowers, ivy, and croton plants. Janet took pride in her good health, and amazingly took no medications until the last few years of her life. She had worked as a secretary for Exxon Oil, and several colleges and hospitals in Louisiana and Texas before retiring to Montana to be near her daughters.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jimmy, and numerous aunts and cousins. She is survived by her three daughters and their families: Sara and Randy Bicsak of Selah, WA; Karen and Dan MacLean and their sons Matthew and Nicholas of Billings, MT; Martha and Kevin Hintt, and their son Conner Hintt of Billings MT; and their daughter Makenzie and her husband Mark Schlotterback of Peoria, IL.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Meadows, especially Art, Sylvia, Liz and Penny. The kind assistance of Jodie from Stillwater Hospice was much appreciated as well. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
