Doris Averett Voyles was born on September 16, 1943 to Lomond LaMar Averett and Zelpha Asay Averett in Lovell, Wyoming the third of five children. Doris met her husband Alvin Keith Voyles in Lovell, Wyoming, where they were married on May 27, 1961.
