Zoe Ann Wetzsteon

Zoe Ann Wetzsteon passed away peacefully on March 10, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 89 years old. She will be remembered above all for her kind and gentle spirit, her incredible gift for homemaking, sewing and handwork and for always being there for her family.

Zoe was born in Hamilton, MT to her parents, Margaret LeSuer and William Blaine LeSuer. Her parents, brother (Blaine), and sister (Maurine) preceded her in death.

Zoe grew up in Hamilton, enjoying all the beauty and splendor of the Bitterroot valley. She graduated from high school in 1948. She met her husband, Gary Wetzsteon, during her high school years. One of her after school jobs was at a local soda fountain, where she would make Gary chocolate malts and banana splits on occasion. After high school graduation, Zoe worked at the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. in Hamilton as a switchboard operator. Gary and Zoe were married in July of 1951 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hamilton, MT, where both Zoe and Gary were lifetime members. They would then move to Moses Lake, WA where Gary’s Air Force career duties began.

After Gary finished his Air Force tour and completed forestry school, they moved to Rawlins, WY, and Whitehall, MT before spending time in West Yellowstone, Harlowton, Red Lodge, and Billings. Zoe and Gary were blessed with four daughters along the way. Zoe was very active in her P.E.O. organizations and will be missed by her very dear friends with whom she shared that sisterhood. She also spent time working as a Kindergarten aide at Lockwood Schools in Billings. When Zoe and Gary retired to Sula, MT, she continued to give her time to Special Olympics and a children’s’ reading tutoring program.

Zoe is survived by her husband, Gary; her daughters; Patti (Mac) McGahan, Diane (Pat) Metzger, Nancy (Jay) Billington, and Vicki (Matt) Catingub, grandchildren; Jenny, Cory, Mandi, Malori, Cale, Kate, Alex, and Sarah, and great-grandchildren; Leilani, Gabriel, Julia, and Jack.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is planned for April 7, 2018 at 11AM in the chapel at Cremation and Funeral Gallery. Zoe’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Home for the round the clock love and care she received during the years of her residence there.
