John Hugh Whittle was born November 14, 1950, in Billings, Montana, to C.J. and Mary Ellen Whittle. He passed into the loving arms of his heavenly father, with his wife by his side, on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
John grew up with six sisters and three brothers in Billings, and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1969. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and then attended mechanic training at the College of Technology. John was a skilled diesel mechanic and welder all his life. Many people turned to him for help with car repairs and other fix-it projects.
John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Brenda. John’s children and spouses are: Matt and Amy Whittle (children Claire and Lily); Lacy and Rye Svingen (children Ander and Lucille); stepchildren: Michael Fox and family; Gayle Brown and Randall (and their son, Rylan); Gayle’s daughter, Jordan and husband Chris); and Terry Klostermeier. John’s siblings and spouses are Kathy and Larry Dreyer, Patty and Ron Nordlund, Tom and Carol Whittle, Jim Whittle, Marjorie and J.C. Knaub, Carrie and Kevin Winegardner, Barbara Whittle, and Laura and Eric Humberger. John also was blessed with dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother, Joe, along with his niece, Alyssa.
Memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at Cremation and Funeral Gallery, 29 8th Street West in Billings. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow the services at Mountview Cemetery, 1704 Central Avenue, Billings, MT. A reception will be announced following the graveside.
